MAJOR OBJECTIVE: *To develop written, verbal, and visual communication skills using the computer
GRADE LEVELS: 7-8
MATERIALS CHECKLIST: *One or multiple computers *Software: word processing, graphics *Teacher-prepared student handouts
TIME REQUIRED: 23 class periods
ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES: *Demonstrate the word processing software. Have the students choose a partner and compose an opinion paragraph. Review persuasive vocabulary and the difference between fact and opinion. *Conduct an advertising relay using the word processing software. Name a product and have the students enter its slogan. *Have the students create their own produce, differentiating it from others in that category. *Have the students use word processing software to create a questionnaire/survey to determine student and teacher needs and wants relative to this product. *Have the students create a slogan and jingle for their products. *Have the students write, stage, and star in a television commercial, using the graphics software to prepare a storyboard. *Have the students create and tape a radio commercial. *Have the students design the packaging for their products. *Have the students use the graphics software to design a billboard, poster, or magazine/newspaper ad.
FOLLOW-UP/EXTENSION: Graphics can be hand colored by students. .
